Hard to play without leaving the house - Pokémon GO

Phases

NO LONGER ADMIN
So... guess I'm going to have to incorporate it in just my normal commute. I'm not going to go out with the purpose of playing I don't have time for that but...

Is there hope for the casual housebound-ish person?

The main point of the game is to go run around and catch Pokemon irl, so it's going to be rough not doing that. Even hatching eggs requires walking several km to hatch them. If you pop the app open now and then while you're it you might get some, but without purposeful activity, progress will be difficult. There are fake gps apps you can use to fake travel, but I'm not going to list them here.

Phases, with the XPOSED framework installed, You can install a tweak module for Pokemon Go.

For Lollipop/Marshmallow Android only - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
This is the guide to installing the framework and installer.

The modules i use to make Pokemon Go work under spoofed GPS, and to enable an onscreen joystick to move the player around are as followed.

"XposedPokemon" - needed to control the player within the app. (required)
"RootCloak" - needed to hide root from the app. (required)
"Hide Mock Location" - needed to spoof GPS data to the app. (optional)

1) Uninstall Pokemon Go
2) Have Xposed Framework installed and enabled.
3) Use Xposed Installer to search for, install, and enable the above listed modules.
4) You can enable these modules and configure them before rebooting by hitting the checkmark and choosing not to reboot.
5) After rebooting, install Pokemon go - but do not run/open it.
6) Open Rootcloak and add Pokemon Go to the blacklist.
7)Open Hide Mock Location and add Pokemon Go to the blacklist.
8) Open Xposed Pokemon to start the on screen joystick. (leave this app running by returning to the homescreen.
9) Open Pokemon Go, and login.
10) use the onscreen Joystick to navigate the Pokemon Go world.

Happy Hacking!

Through the course of ~3 years of Ingress, Niantic has gotten reasonably-good at detecting location-spoofing cheaters and has begun cracking down with soft bans for Pokemon Go offenders.

It cheapens the game experience for others who abide by the rules - and, really, getting out and about will probably do you some good!

It's also a flagrant violation of Niantic's terms of service, so let's try to avoid discussing it in detail here lest we incur their wrath. ;)

I dont support cheating but for some, data service isnt available.
Some are paralyzed or home-bound to WiFi, and unable to enjoy the game as others that do have the ability to go outside, or use data service.

The method i shared was simply a way to play bypassing the restrictions of the need for a data service to roam the streets with, It may be useful for someone that may be travelling abroad, or not able to go out and travel long distances.

With all the crime targetting Pokemon Go users such as theft and violence- this cuts out the need to wander into strange areas in person, increases user safety.

As with all exploitation, yes cheating is bad - but only if you get caught. Niantic should know by now that its inevitable.

If they dont want people to cheat, maybe they should build their app better.

The entire point is to get outside.....
GPS spoofing is cheating. It gives an unfair advantage to people such as my 8 year old daughter who loves to catch Pokémon. If someone can sit on their butts and spoof their location without putting in any work than that's an unfair advantage. If you don't have data then don't play, but don't use location spoofing to do it.

I asked my daughter about location spoofing and her reply was "Cheaters Suck"
I agree with her!

Its looking against the TOS.......

I've caught a couple while inside the house and out on my porches. Not sure if you'd see any in a high-rise apartment building though. Anybody living in a building over 3 stories high catch any Pokeys while inside?

if you re-look at my post the GPS spoofing portion of it is completely optional as GPS spoofing requires MOCK LOCATION TO BE ON, as its not needed to actually use the joystick portion YOU CAN HACK MOCK LOCATION OFF, one could originate from their home location and just use the joystick to simulate walking around.

the GPS spoofing is included, but you dont have to spoof GPS to use the joystick.

availability doesnt always mean usability.

this is an argument that will get none of us anywhere, and this thread was not created for you to complain semantics!

cry more. GG.

edit:

// it's only cheating IF you get CAUGHT.

So, this lets you cheat. That is established. This violated the TOS. That is established. This does not enable theft, enable IAP, or involve copyright infringment, so it is just cheating. It is up to Niantic to enforce its TOS.

That is the final word on this. No more bickering about it please.
