Help Hardware or Software problem?

Hi,I need help to determine whether my new Nexus7 has a hardware or software fault.It locks itself for no apparent reason on all applications.When I try to unlock ,the screen opens for a split second and then locks again with a audible click.
I turn off the power and re power and all is well again until the next lock up.It appears to be caused by certain combination of screen touches.
From new I have only added these apps:Sudoku,Media Importer,over drive media console and shazam.
I am very new to tablets and non too techo,any guidance would be appreciated

Press+hold the volume down and power button for like 30 seconds until you see the screen flash.

That triggers a hard power reset, your information will be safe. Once done simply power up again and see what happens.

If it keeps happening you should consider triggering a factory reset to make sure there isn't rouge software on the device. Keep in mind a hard reset will erase everything on the tablet, so make sure you have anything important saved.

A hard reset is best done sooner than later..If there is something wrong with the tablet you need to know sooner than later.
