Do a search on this forum and you'll find some tips.
I seen some but don't recall where right now.

You can probably stop and disable the Google social stuff if you're not using them. like G+, Hangouts and Now. It will certainly save your battery and mobile data usage, especially of you don't have an unlimited plan.

Mostly, you just need to control access to the internet. It is background processes that are running talking to servers w/o your knowledge that eat up the battery.

My method is to just turn OFF all of the apps you will never use. Among my choices were NFL football, Amazon Suites, all the games, etc...

Then I added on app called MacroDroid. In MacroDroid I created a couple of macros that just monitor the screen status. Very easy to do, and VERY EFFECTIVE.

macro #1
Trigger: Screen OFF
Action: WiFi off, Data off

macro #2
Trigger: Screen Unlocked
Action: WiFi enabled, Data ON

and that is all you need to do.
Look at this battery graph, you can't get any better than this. And this was during a typical day of using the phone for telco, SMS, reading news reports, accessing forums, etc...
