Google aren't a startup any more. They are a huge corporation, whose primary business is collecting data about you and using it to make money, and they are much harder to avoid than others in that line. Their attitude to anyone else, from customers to national regulators, is "we're right and we don't care what you say". It would be surprising if there wasn't some push back really.
"Don't be arrogant" would be a good motto for them to consider if they really want to maintain trust.
