Help Has ICS fixed the video playback issues?

Hello, I played with several Galaxy Note in different stores. I noticed that among the videos I watched from Youtube, half of them had very poor video quality (e.g. coarse, visible squares making up the images). The staff said that it was due to the poor video quality of the original files. Given that I encountered such issues while using different units, I suspect that it might be a defective issue with the devices or with the OS. Could somebody please clarify the causes of such video issues? For those who have upgraded to the official ICS, do you encounter such issues? Thanks.

ICS on the Note has not yet been released. Anyway, what playback issues are you referring to? As long as the source video is high quality and in HD, I see very impressive playback quality - especially from YouTube which does apply a lot of compression. See:

Elbow - 'Lippy Kids' (Live at Blueprint Studios) - YouTube

This is a high quality video on YouTube.

Out of interest, are you viewing using the YouTube app or via the browser using Flash. These two routes can result in very different image and sound quality.

Thanks for the reply. I thought Samsung in Canada released ICS few days ago. When I watched the videos, I saw something like "HD" with a red dot on the top right of the screen. That is why I don't believe in what the staff told me. He said that it was due to the poor quality of the original video files...I think I watched the videos using YouTube app. Which of the two routes produces better quality? I should try next time.

As for playback issues, I meant any of the following:

- coarse, visible squares making up the images
- black clipping issue as discussed on Facebook:

I think the YouTube app produces better video quality. Viewing video in the browser using flash is, in my experience, not very consistent and sometiems suffers from audio sync issues. It is very stable in the YouTube app, which doesn't rely on the Flash Player.

I have never seen video playing back as badly as on the example in that Facebook discussion. I can only think there is a config problem with that Note. If I play the video I linked to in my previous post the quality is literally fantastic - no break up of the tonal range, deep blacks, great colour and perfect audio sync. Next time you are testing phones in-store, try it -search for lippy kids elbow and you will find it.

This is NOT the thread for Canadian Galaxy Notes.

This is for the International version of the Note and it hasn't been released yet for us...

You want the Galaxy Note LTE forum...

I don't think ICS is actually out even in Canada fir the Note, it has just been announced in a press release there.

Three was an update to Flash in the last day or so, incidentally. It has improved audio sync on my Archos tablet.
