Have you returned your Incredible and now are back to using the Eris?

I agree with majorcovert. My contract ended but I figured I'd try the Incredible for the heck of it knowing I can toss it back within the 30 day mark. Without a doubt it's the best phone that Verizon offers right now (which isn't saying much) however it's nowhere near what an iPhone is. Why HTC decided to make this thing so narrow is beyond me as it really compresses the on-screen keyboard. As well, though the display in normal light is nice, outside in any kind of sunlight it sucks. No wonder why Apple isn't going to use the AMOLED screen. From a functional point of view, having to remove the silly little delicate back every time I want to swap my microSD card is beyond stupid. How many times can I do that before the tiny little tabs break off? And who the heck makes the lens of the camera PROTRUDE beyond the back of the camera such that when you lay it down on its BACK the first thing that comes in contact with the surface is the lens?!? Personally I am not a fan of protective cases unless they are d3o (which there aren't any for this phone yet) so this is always going to be an issue for me. The call quality of this phone sucks, period and I live in Seattle where the VZ network is robust. And don't get me started with Google setting the phone to automatically sync gmail contacts, calendar and email. Grrrrrrrr. I'll be calling VZ up tonight and reanimating my silly SCH-i760 and waiting for the new iPhone.

And yeah it's camera is 3 megapixels more than the Eris, but even 5 megapixels is a billion times better than cameras that were just fine a few years ago. What the hell people??

As has been pointed out, increasing the megapixels doesn't automatically mean "better", not even 2X better. In fact, packing more megapixels into a sensor that doesn't really have room will actually *decrease* quality. The worst thing that happens is that the dynamic range suffers and noise increases. Once portable cameras hit the 6 - 8 mp range and started going past that, people started longing for a return from 10mp portable cameras back to the old range. Same thing happened with dslrs that went megapixel crazy without increasing the size of the sensors. There's a certain sweet spot with any particular sized sensor and as phone and photo sensor real estate gets smaller and smaller, increasing the megapixels is just marketing, not quality.

Same thing happened to me going from the ATT 8125 to the Tilt. Doubling the megapixels from 1.5 to 3 made for *worse* pictures, not better (and dropping the LED flash didn't help either.

To those who say that the camera shouldn't be important and we should just go and get a "real camera", I need a decent phone camera to tide me over since my Canon 20D stopped working. I won't be making quality shots or anything, but there are times that I need to document things that are going on, and being a fairly enthusiastic photographer with a few grand of gear sitting idle right now because of financial constraints, I'd like the quality to be halfway decent and not smeared or over algorithmized.

Sorry to carry on the camera thread hijack, but this whole "more megapixels is better" thing just drives me crazy.

but something better than the first one would be great. Even the older HTC device (ATT 8125 a.k.a. HTC Wizard) was better.

No, I haven't checked out the Eris camera yet. Hopefully, it's better, but just having more megapixels won't mean anything to me.

A great thread of Eris users trying to make themselves feel better about their old Eris which they are stuck with for the next year or two?

Well lets get real people, The Incredible is boat loads superior to the Eris in EVERY way.

1. Its slimmer
2. Ridiculously faster
3. Has three times the available RAM
3. Larger, higher resolution screen is a DREAM when browsing the web. Its just amazing going from 3.2" 480x320 to a 3.7" 800x480 screen.
4. AMOLED on Incredible offers much better image quality.
5. 8mp camera is far superior to the Eris. I dont think people have seen this thread http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/72153-you-kidding-me-camera-quality.html

Plus no flash on the Eris SUCKS. Eris camera is 100% useless even indoors and medium lite areas. You can forget taking pictures with the Eris in low light situations. The Incredible on the other hand with its dual-LED flash is amazing and can illuminate large areas in low light situations.

6. Battery life is better on the Inc. I get a good 1/2 day longer use and the phone is blazing fast.

7. I get the same db signal strength as any Eris user I have personally seen.

8. 3D rendering is three times as fast on the Inc.

9. After letting them use my Inc. every Eris user I come across in person wishes they have waited for the Inc.

All HTC 3.7" screened phones use 16:10 aspect ratio screens. The Inc. is not more narrow than any other HTC phone as again, its the exact same 16:10 aspect ration.

The Moto Droid screen is even MORE narrow at 16:9.

I dunno, I think this is a decent picture for a camera phone. taken with the Incredible.

1.) Sweet car. I've always loved the looks of the S2000.

2.) I agree with the whole mega pixels doesn't matter thing. My old SLVR, with a 1.3 mega pixel camera, took better pictures than my ENV2 and ENV3, both of which had more mega pixels. In fact, sometimes if I needed a picture I would sometimes pop out my SD card and put it into my SLVR if I couldn't get to a real camera because the ENV's cameras were so shitty. The Eris has an amazing camera in my opinion, I love it. I don't think it's cause it has 5 mega pixels, I think it's the quality of the way the lens was built etc., stuff that was already discussed here. I still love my Canon more, and prefer to use that, but if I need to take a picture I am not afraid to use my phone now.

3.) I didn't get the Incredible because I couldn't afford it. BUT, I think I would have ended up using my Eris again because I don't care for the grooves on the back of the phone and I would miss the physical call/end/power buttons. But I do like the Incredible a lot, so it would be a close call if I were to get it and if I would switch back or not.
