Root Having lots of problems changing PRL

I have been trying to change the PRL on my Optimus V , but I have encountered several problems. I have gotten myself to the point of using QPST, but whenever I use it, it connects to the COM port but can't find the phone. Then it will freeze the computer. I have tried this on 2 separate computers, same thing happened. Does anyone have any suggestions and tips?

I also have another question, and this is just more of a what is happening question.
I have I.H.O. on my phone, and for whatever reason, the dock sometimes disappears. What is the cause of this?
 
The dock on the bottom (launcher dock), or do you mean the status bar on the top (aka notification bar)?
 
The launcher dock on the bottom, ADW Launcher. Like sometimes it disappears on me, and my first gut feeling is that it crashed and I should probably just restart it (the launcher, not the phone), but after I do that it is still missing. It comes back eventually on its own.
 
Did you flash Jerry's new update of BACKside from last night?

I might not be able to help you because I'm still a bit new to the rom scene, but the more info you give the better someone can help you (versions of rom, gapps, what recovery and version etc). ;)
 
No I didn't install the new ROM from last night, though I did install the September 28 one. What does the new ROM have to offer over the one I have?
 
Read the original post where he's edited bits to show what's been fixed/added/reworked etc. Jerry is really good about keeping us abreast of changes.
