having problems downloading apps?

I bought a new htc incredible s android a few weeks ago and i cannot download anything in the android market. its very frustrating.
ive reset my phone and it still doesn't work
i have no idea how to fix this. can someone help please!?

there is a gray bar that says "starting download" but nothing happens

Is this your first android? I'll assume it is.

Go back to the homescreen, press the menu button>settings>applications>manage applications>all tab>look for market>select "clear data">reboot the phone.

do you mean turn off the phone?

i can't select clear data it isn't allowing me to.
maybe because i havent been able to download a thing?

Yes I meant turn the phone off, wait a few minutes, like 5min or so, then turn it on again.
