having problems downloading music files

I am having issues downloading music files to my phone, I'm trying to do this through a media hosting/planning app that i have been using for a year now with no problems. within the last couple I have not been able to download anything through the app. It is saying the file types are not compatibe and downloads as a .bin. The file types are m4a and m4p and i know they are supported by the phone becuase i have them on it and have downloaded them countless times before. I tried email the file to myself from my laptop and couldn't even download the file out of the email. I had the same problem a week ago when someone emailed me a video.. no way to download it. any suggestions on both issues? tried rebooting the phone and nothing.
