Having the Desire shipped from the UK to the US?

IO3

Lurker
I might purchase the Desire from clove.co.uk because of the significant price difference, but the only problem is that I have no idea if I will have to pay any VAT/import taxes/whatever when I receive the phone in the US.
Any Americans here know how this works?

HTC Desire doesn't have the US 3G bands. Are you gonna be ok with edge speeds? AT&T should have it's variant pretty soon.

Thanks but it's ok, I'm not even from the US. Someone is gonna bring me the phone from the US, so I just need to know if there are any fees and stuff when importing the phone to the US. So far I asked in 3 different forums and haven't got a single answer :(

Because in Israel I'll have to pay 33%, which is about $180 :(
Anyway, I found that there is no import tax on phones imported from the UK, but I'm still unsure about the VAT

How come?
I was under the impression it's quad band.

Only for 2G. It doesnt cover the US bands for 3G, only Europe and Asia/Pacific

Europe:

  • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
  • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Asia Pacific:

I'm from Israel too - where do you get the 33% VAT is 16.5%

I'm planning on having one shipped to me here but will wait till the skies clear so the mail is running fine.

Thanks for the helpful info:
Do you know what the 3G US bands are?
