Root Having trouble rooting S5. Stuck on "Downloading. Do not turn off target!"

The 1st link you provided in your last post worked. It installed the firmware and it rebooted on it's own. After a 2nd re-boot, it came to the splash screen and then went to my home screen.

I'm not noticing anything different with the device.

Here's my goal:

I'd like to install CM13 and basically have my phone streamlined, etc. I want all the bloatware off of it as well as all the annoying alerts, such as: volume too loud alert, close charging port cover alert, etc.

What's next?

That first link was for the CF-Auto-Root kernel for rooting Android 6.0.1. Once I knew exactly which firmware/Product code you were on and how high the changelist # was for it, then it was worth trying. It obviously worked. :)

CM13 ROM builds are all Nightly release, alpha, test builds to-date. This means there is a new release with bugfixes, enhancements, features, released every day. Most work. Some may crash your phone. You will need a rooted phone with TWRP custom recovery installed. A knowledge of nandroid backups and I would also suggest installing Titanium Backup/Pro.

TOP TIP: Best practice... Always make a nandroid backup to your external SD card, prior to flashing or modding

The CM13 ROM will not contain all the features that the current stock Samsung TouchWiz firmwares offer. The CM13 ROM comes in 2 parts, CM13 ROM and Google Apps, (gapps), if required, and they are flashed via the TWRP custom recovery.

The ROM is for experienced and competent users. The key to installing and using this ROM is to ... read, read, read, Google search, Google search and Google search.

I still need help please. I apologize I haven't been around. Life got a little busy!

I haven't finished installing a custom rom on my S5. So far, I've only rooted it and installed SuperSU Free. The app SuperSU is asking me to update it, but it's saying these two options: Installation method, Normal, or TWRP/CWM.

I have also installed TWRP Manager.

I'm not exactly sure where to start right now.

I'm only looking for a minimalistic custom rom. I don't need any bells and whites or those pesky warning messages such as "You're exceeding a safe volume level." Or "Remember to plug in your charger cover to prevent water from entering your phone after removing your charging cable."

Ironass wrote you a book on the subject. Everything you need to know is one post above yours. Install TWRP. READ.

The update isn't completing. I don't think I did it right. I thought the phone was going to download the update and then it would automatically install it upon reboot. That did not happen.

I installed TWRP with my TWRP manager. It was version 3.0.2 (whatever was latest version). It downloaded and I attempted to install it. It said it failed, but my phone asked me if I wanted to reboot into recovery. I hit yes and now my phone won't boot. It just says "Custom binary blocked by Reactivation Lock."

Looks like I'll have to restore using Kies when I get home from work.
