having trouble upgrading sd card

Hello and happy holidays to all.
I researched this for a bit before posting. Ive got the stock 8gb card in my phone and it's maxed out. I got a 32gb for navidad and would like to transfer all my files over. The 32 came with an normal size SD card/adapter. From the threads I've read, people said just upload the 8gb, transfer to computer and then dump it to the 32gb.

I created a folder on my desktop (Macbook) for my 8gb sd card files, and when I go to plug in my 32gb card, it wont let me dump my folder onto it. I drag it over but it gives me the not allowed icon. Am I doing something wrong? Im not a techy so if you could explain this in the easiest way possible, santa will blow your mind next year.
Thank you.

I'd make sure that the card is formatted correctly. To do so, go to Settings > SD card > Unmount (if it is mounted, if not, ignore this) > Erase/Format SD card

Depending on your Android version, and if it's mounted, will matter. If it's not mounted, you should see the Erase SD or Format SD option. If it's mounted, it'll show Erase/Format as greyed out.

If you formatted it with your Mac, it has Apple's evil format on it, and it needs to be formatted with FAT32 to work.

Or, if you're unlucky, your device can not support 32GB microSD cards. Check your device manufacturer. The biggest you might be able to have is 16GB. Or your card is a counterfeit found on eBay. Those cards usually don't work. Amazon will sell legit devices.
