Having two problems with my desire.

1. As mentioned in another thread on this forums, my top speaker will cut out randomly and also as mentioned plugging in a headset fixes it. Not sure what i want to do about this as i dont want to carry around earbuds all the time in case it happens, should i call virgin to replace it hoping they have newer models or return it to radio shack but risk likely having same problem with the replacement?

2. Charging LED indicator will not show green even if it is fully charged until you hit the screen lock button, basically renedering the notification light useless. This isnt a massive problem but just fairly annoying, has anyone else had this problem?

Loving phone otherwise, battery life seems decent for a 4.5" screen and i LOVE the speakers and overall solid feel to the phone.

1) Sounds like a defective earphone jack. You always risk having a mechanical part go bad - that's just how the world is. Nothing's perfect. As far as returning it to Virgin or RS, that's up to you, and depends on how old it is and what the replacement times are. I'd opt for the faster replacement time, unless I had a spare phone to use while it was out for replacement (unless one of them does the "we send you the replacement, then you return the bad one" thing.)

2) The LED normally (meaning "on most phones") doesn't indicate charging or full charge unless the screen is off. If the screen is on you can see the state of charge on the screen.

After that post that I made in another thread (top speaker not working), I thought that if it were to happen again that I would try cleaning out the jack with electronic parts cleaner. Radio Shack sells a small spray can with a spray straw attachment, or you can go to many auto parts stores and buy a larger can for less money. If I recall correctly, CRC makes a product called QD (Quick Dry) Electronics Cleaner. Anyway, pull the battery, hold the phone upside down, insert the spray straw into the jack, and spray away. Maybe work a headphone plug into there a few times while it's still wet, and then spray it again. Then let it dry thoroughly before reinstalling the battery and powering up again.

I should say that I haven't done this yet on my own phone, but somebody needs to be the guinea pig! ;)

Let us know if it helps.

Its definitely not a problem with dirty contacts imo, the phone is brand new and it happened the day after i got it. Like a poster in your thread says its likely a software issue with the phone thinking it has headphones plugged in or something. Ill call virgin today and see what they say, i may just have them send me a replacement cause the store locally probably does not have an updated model (if there is an updated model).

If it is a software issue, then you might do well to wait on the operating system update that is currently in the works. Last I saw, they're now targeting April. That's slipped back from the 1Q2014 target that I first heard, but the important thing is that it's still in the works.
