^This is the info on the whitescreen. Any roms i try, or even the backup and my phone bootloops. I am fairly new at this and ive tried alot of things and nothing is working! i am running twrp 1.1.1 recovery. SOMEONE HELP!!!!!

What ROM's are you trying to flash?

The 1.58 hboot will only work with ICS Sense based ROM's.

im not currently trying to flash any roms, because all the ones ive tried made my phone bootloop. do you know any roms that i could try that would work?

Try Harmonia. If that doesn't work try one of the 2.95 stock ROM's.

You can attempt S-OFF if you want to try other ROMs, but nobody to our knowledge has attempted it with the 1.58.0000 HBOOT, so you'd be a guinea pig on the process. If it can be done, this guide will get you there. Ignore the preliminary steps.
Whoa!

You shouldn't promise your guide will get him to S-OFF since AFAIK no VM user has done it with hboot 1.58 yet. Also, which version of the JBear utility is included in your guide, VM ICS or Sprint ICS? There was a post earlier today where brian706 made a case that a VM user with the 1.58 hboot might want to use the Sprint ICS version of JBear.

And all of these questions are independent of whether he uses Windows or Linux. The bottom line is that unlimited.io won't support JBear for VM users on hboot 1.58 at this point regardless of which PC OS they use.

It would be nice to get a "guinea pig" but let's make sure they know what they are getting into. ;)

I made no promises. I said "attempt", and I said "guinea pig", which implies risk.

My guide uses the Virgin Mobile ICS version.

OK, you didn't promise, but I don't think the first person that tries S-OFF with hboot 1.58 should necessarily follow any of the existing guides. IMO if/when someone agrees to try it they deserve to be walked through it step-by-step so if anything goes wrong we can all help them recover.

ok so i tried harmonia, and guess what? it keeps rebooting -_-. man i hate hboot 1.58. what rom do any of yall know of that would work? or anything that could help me. is S-OFF the only option?

Unfortunately you are stuck with it now unless you get S-OFF. :(

Try one of the stock rooted ROM's in this post. It's the version that came with the OTA so they should work with hboot 1.58.

If Harmonia didn't work, your best bet is this ROM: http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ota-2-95-652-5-un-rooted-odexed-deodexed.html

Although it's just a stock build, you can have root on it... if you want S-OFF we can do our best to help you through it, but you have to understand that you'd be the first person on 1.58.0000 to attempt it, and that it may not work. My guess is that it would work, but that guess is not based on any evidence.

ok i will try these! if they do not work, i guess i will try the S-OFF
Unfortunately, you can't do the JuopunutBear wire trick without a bootable ROM so we're going to have to work with you until you can find one that works.

Edit: one more thing to try. Boot your recovery with the following fastboot command and then try flashing the ROM:
fastboot boot recovery.img <--- the name of the recovery file you previously flashed
Make sure to wipe all partitions except SD card in the 4EXT wipe/format menu and disable SmartFlash/S-ON in the tools menu before flashing.

have you tried fastboot flashing the Kernel from the Rom you want to flash then flashing the Rom?

Edit: Ninja'd by ramjet's edit.......

ok ramjet73, i tried the fastboot boot recovery.img thing and that didnt work because it couldnt mount my sd card. something else i could try??

Things to try:

Remove SD card, copy contents to a computer and reformat the card FAT32. Copy a rom to it and replace in the phone.

That might be why the the sd can't be mounted.

There have been reports that WiFi is broken on nega's 295 stock rom, but that will not keep it from booting.

The other thing to try is replace the TWRP recovery with 4ext and see if it works better. There are links to download it around here.

I think Mobster's idea is pretty good too, but it requires getting into a recovery to wipe partitions and flash the ROM after the boot.img is flashed from fastboot.

the only thing im trying to do is stop the phone from rebooting everytime i try a different rom. im not a whizkid or nothing lol

Do you format data when you install a ROM? Do you have the option in TWRP set to be able to flash Kernels? It's called Dumlock.

Have you looked through the menus of twrp for it? I use 4ext personally. I think you might have better luck using it as well. There are some versions posted around here somewhere to download so you don't have to buy it if you don't want the app. Idk if Twrp has dumlock since your running that old of a version. Which could also be why your having issues.
