Root hboot

sorry for noob question.
am thinking off changing hboot.. will it wipe my rom ? so i will have to re flash . do i really need to do it ? am on oxygen 2.3 and all seems ok my apps are going to my partion ( checked using freespace ) my change to cm7.1 ... will i need to do it for that ?

You dont have to change the hboot but it saves on wasted space.

Just nandroid before you do it as you may need to nandroid restore afterwards.
