HD VS iphone tethering

When im at home, i use the wifi hotspot function on my HD phone to connect my laptop to the internet, it works beautifully and quickly , and the 3g signal is pretty fast where i live.

Is it possible to do the same with an iphone 4 ? and does it work as well as the HD ?
I ask as my wife wants an iphone .

Yes you can and remaining impartial I imagine it works just the same however it appears that the iPhone tethering service results in the use of a tethering APN resulting in charges for most networks other than Threes One Plan.
