HDMI cable for SGS2

Hi all

Just wanted to know if a generic micro usb to HDMI cable is ok to be used with the SGS2 or does it require one specifically designed for SGS2??

I can buy a generic for $4.00 including postage however the genuine cables for SGS2 are around $25.00 plus postage.

You need a special cable, called a MHL to HDMI adapter. MHL is a new standard for HD video on portable devices, and the SGS2 is one of the first devices to adopt it. Until TVs with MHL ports come on the market, you'll need the MHL to HDMI adapter, which contains a chip that converts the MHL signals pumped out by the SGS2 into HDMI. This is one reason why the existing MHL adapters require a charger input -- the chip takes some power to run.
