hdmi out question

Is there any way to get just a micro USB to hdmi out to work or is that mhl adapter absolutely necessary? If it is required will any work?
 
Ive got one of the cables, it came with a samsung monitor. I just cant seem to get it to do anything.
 
The One X needs a MHL adapter for to connect to a HDMI TV.

... or even better, a wireless HDMI, look for HTC Media Link HD :)

I bought a pikie eBay MHL adaptor for my Sensation, and it works fine on my One X too :)
 
The MHL adapter is needed, plus as they charge the phone at the same time it saves you say watching a film from the phone and realizing you have just raped you battery down to nothing. you can get an adapter for
