Help Headphone problems

So I have a few pairs of head phones. I have some ear buds I use at the gym and some sennheisers I use otherwise. In the car I use Bluetooth which works perfect for music. I recently started having a problem with the earbuds with my turbo. Here they are for reference

When I plug them in the music doesn't play. But when I use them with any other device they work perfectly fine. Now when I went home and tried my other headphones with the turbo it was playing fine. It just doesn't work with the earbuds. I've done some research and found that the turbo has problems with 3.5 mm jacks with 4 different connections which the earbuds have. My sennheisers have the typical 3. But I'm confused because the earbuds have worked fine for months prior. What the hell happened?

Sounds like (pun intended) you've already stumbled into the gist of the problem already. You've got a mix and match situation with TRS (three contacts) and TRRS (four contacts) devices and headphones. The contacts on the plug end of your earbuds just don't line up properly with the jack contacts inside your Droid Turbo. There are pictures that might be better at visualizing the problem on this Wikipedia page on connectors:

There are 'TRRS to TRS' and/or 'TRS to TRRS' adapters online pretty cheap.
I have no idea as to why your earbuds were OK and then just stopped.

I know it is quite bizarre. I've fixed it by using a headphone splitter. The earbuds work perfectly fine and so does the jack on my turbo. Really stumped on why it just stopped working by plugging it directly in. Thanks for the reply!
