Headphones again

I have just had to send my second pair of Klipsch headphones back to Amazon with the same fault. When they were working I was very happy with them with my Nexus 4. Please can someone recommend some to replace them with around the

Thank you! I am wondering whether to get over the ear ones rather than in ear ones now. I am out and about a lot, mostly in fields. Wondered if I would find over ear ones too cumbersome or actually more comfortable......

It's all down to personal preferences, but I use the in-ear ones only when needed - eg in noisy environments - and the open-backed ones otherwise.

The Sennheiser models I chose have similar (and good) specifications but to my ears the "over ear" sound much better in all respects, to be honest sound better than my much more expensive full size headphones. They're surprisingly comfortable and match the audio quality of headphones costing many times more; a real bargain at

I've had a few different types of in-ear earphones. The best for comfort, sound quality and isolation were some Shures - they were gorgeous, but after I the 4th replacement set died in almost as many months, I gave up on them.

Which seems to be a bit of a pattern: I appear to be the kiss of death to earphones.

However .. for the last 9 months I've had some ME Electronics S6Ps (in black so not quite as garish as the in that link ;)). Certainly, they're not quite as comfortable, don't sound quite as good and don't have quite the same level of sound isolation as the Shures, but they're plenty good enough and - more to the point - have lasted way longer. They're also somewhere between a quarter and a third of the price.

The mic also works very well.

I have no hesitation recommending them.

I've used and like many Shure products (microphones, pickup cartridges) but I've never used their headphones so can't comment on durability. However my Sennheiser CX300 (original "mk 1") are now over seven years old and on their Nth set of rubbers, but I've had absolutely no issues with them. Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never had a problem with any Sennheiser product, ever.

You say garish, I say funky :D

As I always say: there's no accounting for lack of taste :D

Re Sennheisser - I had a set of 1980s Sennheissers (the classic ones with the big, yellow foam earpiece covers) that were still working last time I saw them - can't remember what I did with them, come to think of it ;)

It may just be me, but I get the distinct impression that no headsets are as well built as they used to be: I don't recall ever having had headsets die as easily 15, 20 years ago. But maybe we just didn't use them quite so much back then ..

Man! I sound old

No, you're old when you stop remembering them being better in the old da....

Erm, what was the question again?

I bought some Astrotec AM800s (from ebay) and they're pretty good, although I don't have much to compare them too. I've also heard of the VSONIC GR02 (again from ebay) and these are around

Thanks for mentioning this brand, I have some senheisers, but no mic. so I saw a set of ME M6Ps and remembered you recommending the S6Ps. They have a mic and worked pretty good straight out of the box, should improve even more and cost around $25.
