Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with my 3rd party headphone mic with Verizon GS3. I have tested 4 pairs of headphones Samsung (came with phone), Beats Tour (I will refer to as "white"), PowerBeats ("red"), and iPhone. All have an inline mic, 3 control buttons, and appear identical (3 rings on jack - I realize that they may have different layouts for the rings). All controls work on the GS3 for play/pause with only the Samsung working to control volume (this was expected). The mic works on the Samsung and red, but not on the white and iPhone. Music played by GS3 comes through just fine on all headphones.
I have tested all of these with my old HTC Droid Incredible (running Android 2.3.7) and all of the mics work on that phone (none of the volume up/down work, all play/pause work). I have also tested all 4 on an iPod Touch (version 4.2.1 - not sure what Gen, but its older - maybe 2nd Gen?) and all headphone mics work as well as all controls except Samsung volume up/down.
Question number 1: Why is the white mic not working on my GS3 when the red mic works perfectly well? From what I understand, PowerBeats and Beats Tour should work for the same devices (they both work for HTC Droid Incredible and iPod Touch). Is it a hardware thing or software (GS3 running 4.0, HTC running 2.3)? Any ideas on how to fix it? It seems like it might be software since all headset mics work on the Droid Inc and iPod Touch...
Question number 2: Is there a way to route the sound input to my phone's internal mic rather than trying to use the inline headphone mic? I use the white ones all the time because they have an 'L' connector rather than straight which prevents them from fraying at the jack connection while I ride my bike.
I don't want to have to carry a second pair of headphones around so I can do a Google Hangout or talk hands-free in public. If I use headphones that have no mic (2 rings on the jack) then it defaults to the internal phone mic.
I'm new to the forum so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong area. I have searched for the issue and haven't found a solution either in this forum or by doing a Google search.

Thanks in advance!
