Heads up regarding USB cables

So I had to take my Spectrum to VZ today because it wouldn't turn on and it turns out the phone was fried.

How I believe it happened was when I plugged it into my PC with a Motorola USB cable (not the OEM) and tried to access it through my VM box. Windows tried to find a drive for the VM link, but when the search failed, the phone went blank and hasn't worked since.

I can't imagine it matters that much, but I'd advise you all of the following:
- Don't use any cable other than OEM; it's probably the same cable with a different sticker on it, but the girl @ the VZ store said she's heard of this issue before
- Don't try to access your phone as a USB device in a VM box. If you don't know what that is, don't worry about it. ;)

That said, got muh new phone and I'm ready to get back to CM. :D

Wow thanks for the heads up. I have been charging my spectrum with my Touchpad charger because its a 2A output. I know if I used a knockoff cable with my X the screen would act really funny but I found that was a grounding issue. I wonder if that is what fried it...

I bought a "gator cable" on Amazon, the kindle fire cable, it had a black nylon/cloth wrap around the outside, with red striping. This cable is perfect for the spectrum, it was too tight to use with my Evo, I was afraid I would break the charging port again. But it fits the spectrum perfectly and is above great quality, maybe better then superior even. I love it, and it is long too! At least 2 meters, maybe 2.5 (I forget and am too lazy to find out). I wrote up a short but positive review on it at Amazon, but that was before I bought a Spectrum.
