headset button always controls phone, never music

It seems like I'm not the only one having issues with my headset not controlling my music. Even when I'm not on a call, the button seems to only want to control my phone.

Any reason for this / way around it?

What app are you trying to control? My bluetooth stereo and headset have no issues controlling the stock music player or pandora for media playback and phone controls.

I'm using the stock music app with a plugged in headset. I'm also using google voice, could this app be stealing the focus and using out for the phone?
