Headset for Nexus 5

I am currently using an in-ear JVC headset, which has a mic, on my Nexus 5. There is a problem in that when using the headset to make a phone call, I cannot hear myself speak in the earbuds (i.e. no voice feedback), and the people I am talking to say that my voice volume is lower than when I use the phone without the headset. I do not know if the problem is caused by the phone itself or the JVC headset, but am willing to buy a new headset just to give that a try. Does anyone have a recommendation for an in-ear headset with mic that you have used with your Nexus 5 that works well, has good sound quality, and voice feedback works like it should?

I'm not really sure what you mean by voice feedback, but I havent had any complaints with my FDR80 (JVC, so it's possible that they're the same as yours.)

By voice feedback, I mean that when you are using the headset to make a phone call, and you are speaking, you should be hearing your own voice in the in-ear headset. I do not hear myself speaking. Do you?

Sorry, I thought I had replied :P

No, I dont hear myself in the headset, although I've never had this feature before and would personally annoy the hell out of me.

As others have mention Klipsch make some good IEMs and the Soundmagic E10 are often recommended as well. I cant remember if RHA do any cheaper sets with a mic, but if they do, that might be worth checking out.

The voice feedback you should be hearing is called sidetone. It's a telephony thing. Because if you can't hear own voice properly, e.g. using sound sealing in ear monitors, there's a tendency for people to talk louder and maybe even shouting, because they're compensating. All telephones have sidetone, including mobile phones. But it depends if a particular headset and phone combination has it.

Other thing is sidetone has to be at the correct volume as well. Too little or non at all, and the phone can sound dead, and makes people louder and shout, too much, and it's very annoying to be hearing yourself unnaturally loud.

Yes, well, that all makes sense and is how I would expect it to work. Anyway, as an update, I bought a mid-grade in-ear headset at Wal-Mart a couple days ago to see if another headset would be any different in that regard as my JVC headset. The results were still no voice feedback (sidetone), so I returned that headset to Wal-Mart and am back to using my JVC headset. My conclusion must be one of these:
1. Both of the headsets that I tried are defective, or at least not designed to allow sidetone functionality with the Nexus 5. (not likely)
2. Not having sidetone is normal for the Nexus 5. (seems hard to believe, but possible)
3. Sidetone should be present with the Nexus 5, but my phone is defective (possible)

So, I guess if everyone else has no sidetone when using a headset to make phone calls with their Nexus 5, then that is normal. No one in this thread has clearly stated that they do have sidetone with their Nexus 5.
