Headset on HELP

rizaydog

Newbie
I got up this morning and when I checked my phone, the headset indicator was on. I don't even have a headset.
I used compressed air to try to blow it out. Turned the phone off and back on. Plugged my squire reader into the jack. It's still on. I can't hear anything when I try to make a call.

I've searched for several hours trying to figure out how to turn the headset off. Is this possible? I found an app on the play store to fix this issue on an HTC but it's not compatible with my phone. Any thoughts?

Yeah,
a). Reboot / power-cycle the phone. If the indicator remains on, then
b). Try an FDR. If that doesn't work, then
c). Return for replacement under warranty.

Thank you for your response.
What is an FDR?
I can't return the phone. I bought it used and had if flashed to page plus.
Could it be a software issue? Maybe with the flashing or an update? There where some app updates done last night. I didn't think about it this morning. I just ignore them mostly.
Does anyone know of an app that will turn the off the headphone jack?

You are welcome. You might not like the follow-up.

An FDR is a factory data reset. When there are updates, yes, it's a good idea to perform an FDR, because the state of anyone's phone may be such that an OTA (over the air) update doesn't take all the way, and some stale memory locations lead to bizzare behavior, and only the FDR returns the device to a state the developers know as known "good" before you start customizing.

Definitely yes it could (but it could also be HW), and yes to flashing and yes to an update. The thing is, for the first question, generally performing an FDR would clear a bizzare problem like this, and if not, then it would be considered a HW problem...

What app updates? Maybe uninstall all custom stuff, power-cycle phone and hope that is it. You have a device that's been flashed to a custom / non-standard ROM. I don't know how to advise you exactly. I *THINK* an FDR will be safe for you, but then again - I cannot be certain. And you can't return the device. Ouch. That's not a good situation to be in. It's a used device... It might have had a mechanical defect in the Headphone jack to begin with right - I mean, why is the device being sold used?

It's possible you were taken advantage of by the seller or by the person doing the flashing.... I'd contact that person / persons... The device should be considered defective unless the seller and/or the person doing the flashing can prove otherwise. If they are honest people, they'll work with you. If not, then they won't.

Maybe the program [**********] (concatenate sound and about), but I'm not sure. I personally don't have experience with a program that inhibits the headphones like that. But, I don't know if that's a solution.

Hopefully someone more savvy than I can aid you.

I had this happen to me on both my LG Connect (when I dropped it in a puddle of water at work) and on my LG Spirit when I used to use my headphone stereo jack everyday in my car. In my experiences a factory reset isn't necessary seeing since it's probably something in the hole such as dust triggering the phone to think there's a jack plugged in. It's a lil annoying having to use the speaker while making calls when this is going on, but this should resolve itself once the culprit stops triggering the device. I wouldn't go performing a factory reset unless it's a last option. In my cases both were back to normal after a day or so.(more like a week with the water version lol) You can try plugging and unplugging a jack into the device a few times and see if that works also.

Compressed air will blow the crud in, not out. Turn the phone off, scrape around in the headphone jack, and tap the phone on the table headphone jack down.

* Someday we will teach stef7 how to spell "factory reset"... Hint, it's not FDR. That's Franklin Delano Roosevelt. :p

I use a LOT of abbreviations in my work and FDR is probably one of the ones I adopted from somewhere else and abuse...

Warning, retraining may be futile...
