Help Hearing aid compatability

iram

Android Enthusiast
I have been having trouble hearing audio from internal phone speaker with and without my hearing aids.

I just realized that there is the following setting on phone:

Settings>call settings>Hearing Aids (turn on hearing aid compatability)

I find that it does make sound much louder I was even able to hear tv sounds in background from the other side of conversation HOWEVER the other side cannot hear what I am saying.

Has any one else experienced this using this function.

It seems that maybe I have finally found a way to actually hear what people are saying on this phone but they cant hear me.

---------

Is this one more problem with this phone?

_________

I wish the s3 wasnt so over priced for an old phone.

Unbelievable.......just called ZTE support....of course they could hear me but I could barely hear them...explained sitiuation about using capatability mode and that it raises volume but cuts off the speaking end of phone.....I dont think they had a clue what I was talking about....feel like I'k talking to Microsoft support.......all they want to do is reset phone !!!...

Not just the phone. My aids are too small to have internal coils and switches or Bluetooth, so the "solution" is a box that hangs around your neck - which I opted to not be bothered with. I just turn the volume on the phone up all the way. With BTE aids with the receiver in the ear itself (the Widex with the "gumdrops" or whatever they call them), I can usually use the phone normally (the hole in the gumdrop allows enough sound to come through, even if I lose the highs), I tilt the phone so it's "talking to" the mic in the aid (even though I lose the lows) or I turn the speakerphone on. If I had the money to burn (and people think some phones are expensive - try close to 4 grand an ear and one raindrop can mean buying another one), I'd buy an aid for the better ear with Bluetooth.

I've got the BTE Widex......I have tried what your talking about but phone volume is horrible and cant always use speaker phone.

Im not sure about coils and such but that compatability mode really boosted the hearing voume...its jut that it seems to disable the "talking" mic so no one can hear what I am saying.................

--------akkkk cell phones....it was so much easier years ago with 2 cans and some string ;)

Zte support doesn't help you much.

This is an interesting find, perhaps there could be a way to have this setting "enabled" by default... I need to tear apart the accessibility service to see what's going on. This is how loud the speaker should've been by default.

I have found it really difficult to hear any one for a while on the phone always blaming it on either my hearing or possibly service though most always say they could hear me ok.

When I re visited this gearing aid compatibility mode I found finally I would be able to hear the other side only to find that the microphone to talk into is being cut off.

I'm wondering if there is anyone else on forum who had used this function with or without hearing aids with success

Just did a test to verify set phone to hearing aide compatibility called my home land line phone...could not be heard what I was saying however warp phone volume was loud so just need to find out if its a phone problem just to this phone or what

Was wondering if you ever had a chance to look into this issue where in hearing aid copmpatability mode the "talk/mouth" speaker is cut off...

Sorry I've been out on a trip. I was able to test... as it turned out, the first call went through fine no issues but every one after that had the cutting out problem. Its a kernel related problem, and it might have to do with Dm47021's volume hack. Not sure yet though, and when I get my internet back up then I'll be able to go through his Github and see what I can find.

ok Thank you would really apreiciate any opinions.

I am rooted with alien kernel with stock rom if that helps.

It would be great to get this function to work if possible

You're running Alien Kernel?? I assumed you were using stock kernel...

I'll see if I have time to revert to stock kernel and test sound on there, the volume hack in the newer kernel might have something to do with this

Hi.
Hope I gave all info correctly I did root phone changed kewrnel to alien:

It says Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-perf+ zte-kernel@Zdroid-SMT under SW VERSION it says "Alien Kernel Owns You"

I never got around to changing Rom yet so I'm still on Stock that came with phone.

not sure if youve had time to test out whether this is a kernel issue......reverting back to stock kernel......I'm sure Im just missing the link...is instructions on how to revert back to original kernel..still staying rooted....then maybe I can test it.....Thanks

I have the same issue with hearing aid mode. I can hear, but they can't. It appears the mic is off completely. I have had this issue on every rom/kernel combo I have used. Would seem to be a simple fix(as it looks like the mic just shuts off in this mode) for one of the DEVs. A fix would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks...So it sounds like we're both having same problem and its not ROM issue....I agree it would be apreciated if one of the DEVs would be able to solve and fix it for us hard of hearing folks.
