Hearing Aids and Android

I have done zero R & D on over the counter aids. I think they will have some merit if they just increase the volume equally across the frequency spectrum. If they are adjustable to accommodate particular frequency deficits they could be a real tool. Not that I'm an audiologist but it would be interesting to manipulate my own prescription.

If over the counter aids increase the number of people entering the hearing correction world, they have their place. I would have tried an over the counter pair of aids years before I actually got aids with a prescription. It wasn't a matter of being labeled an old deaf guy, it was a fear of spending lots of money that didn't really help that kept me from being a consumer. For one reason or another, consumers shy away from hearing aids. I once saw a stat on the number of people in need compared to the small number of consumers. No different than glasses.. if they increase your quality of life... why be without?
I felt skeptical at first when I discovered my test trial of Phonax though, still I fell in love with newer sound towards about every other day with them, with different frequencies and different touch experiances.

Now that I have hearing assistance, I would not be without. I talked my buddy and my older sister into getting aids. Both hated to admit that they needed the hearing assistance but once they had hearing aids, neither will ever be without them. It's not like you can hide the lack of hearing. Everyone you are around knows you have a hearing problem. Get the assistance and enjoy life again. Why pretend you can hear and try to read lips when they have a device that will fix the problem. I hope the legislation allowing over the counter aids will help ease the pain of many and set them off on a more enjoyable existence.

Tubes when I was really young, scar tissue, swam up until my sixth grade.. Roller skating and tae kwon do..
Luckily the academia of that place was super loud. Now these days..

I can fully listen to everyone and understand what they are saying, I can manipulate anything with a push of my ear piece, or via moto.

Aids aren't a 100% fix but they are definitely a huge step in the right direction. I struggle to hear one person in a crowd of talking. I also have difficulty hearing dialogue of a movie when there is background music. My hearing with aids is still far superior than it is without and better than it was four decades ago.

I have an appointment to get my left hearing aid back tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to having it again because wearing just one aid is awkward. I'm also anxious to revisit my BT connection problem with my audiologist. After doing additional research, I have found that the "known" problem created by Android 12 was fixed with 13 and 5.0 UI. I have both of those upgrades and yet my BT connection still randomly drops with no warning or acknowledgement. I have also taken note that a different app is now recommended for my phone instead of the one I've been using. I've installed the new app and plan to forget the old BT marriage and marry my aids through the new app. It might not buy me anything but it could. There is some reason my audiologist was unaware of the continuing connection problem. She is a iPhone person, but with her huge customer base, I shouldn't be the only Android user that is complaining.

Had that case oh a while ago, wearing one really was so uncomfortable, and it was my dominate ear, my right one can hear anything, as long as I have the left one as well.

Gee but it's nice to hear out of both ears again! I picked up my repaired aid this morning from Costco. As an attempt to establish and maintain a BT connection we deleted the associated app, rebooted the phone, installed the app again, and connected the aids again. It's been almost two hours and my aids are still connected for notifications and streams. It's a good sign. Only time will tell if the connection continues to be solid or is randomly dropped.

Later.... No BT love. My audiologist had done some additional research and she found that the problem seems to be isolated with the S21 series. No connection problems reported with the S22 and 23. I'm in no mood to upgrade my phone or change hearing aids. I'm stuck until I do something different.

And in the end your audiologist recommends you buy an Apple iPhone 13 or 14?

She actually had no recommendations. I can upgrade to a S23 Ultra for around $800 by trading in my S21 Ultra. I'm considering that. I will have to be convinced the phone is completely compatible with my aids before I buy. I could change hearing aids as a fix. Both my phone and aids should have another two years of service. I'm not excited about upgrading either at this point. I'm thinking about running a tasker app that will reboot my BT every hour as a work-a-round. I don't know if that's even possible but plan to ask AF if it is and for a recommended app. If all else fails, I'll forget the BT connection between phone and aids.
At least without the connection, the phone will respond to notifications as it should. I will dearly miss the streaming music and phone conversations when BT connected, but at least I'll not be missing calls and notifications when the connection is dropped.

I received a phone update today. I paid no attention just what the update was, allowed it, got my coffee and started my day. An hour ago I received a text notification through my hearing aids. Almost 12 hours after turning on my phone and aids. My normal up time before BT connection is dropped is less than an hour. Perhaps the Samsung update addressed my connectivity problem. Maybe it was just a lucky day. I'll know more in a day or two.
I spent a great deal of time confirming my S21 would be compatible with my hearing aids before I invested. It worked great until Android 12 upgrade and then it was completely unsatisfactory. Android 13 was to fix the issue but it didn't. I can't begin to express how upset I've been. I understand that hearing aid consumers represent a small fraction of Samsung's market. It doesn't make the guy that's invested over 4K to have a somewhat normal existence and then have that investment waisted because the "known" problem is not addressed. I hope it's fixed.

I am glad I am not the only one who is considering of having it though, but I did test out the youtube app today with music, it did not bother to drop though, kind of wonder why yesterday was bbbbbbbzzzzzzzzztttttttt error, and today is "hello moto?"

My BT connection problem is not fixed but is greatly improved. My up time between connection droppage has increased dramatically. Instead of minutes, I'm now getting hours of use before losing the BT connection. Instead of both aids dropping connection, just one drops and not always the same aid. The improvement is nothing to get excited about but I'll take what I can get.

Yeah mine has been kind of strange as well.. the music cuts off after twenty minutes too. Without me touching the cell either.

My player is still running but the stream drops in one aid or the other after an hour or so. An off on reset of BT sets things right again... for a while. I haven't adequately tested the notifications yet. I think they are working as they should but it will take more time before I know for certain.

It went off just now, only plays up to 20 minutes before I need to push the play button..

There are many players at the Play Store. I don't know that VLC is the perfect player for you. It works well for me. I'm a bit disappointed in it's shuffle feature but I've never used a player that does the task well. If you try VLC and it shuts down after twenty minutes it's not the player but some setting or problem with your phone.

I discovered this!
After trouble shooting everything I can think of resetting the connection via Phonax app, I put my moto to safe mode, I went to the Phonax And clear the cache. It worked wonders - in case if anyone was wondering.
