HelixLauncher

Helix 2 crashes a lot. Other than that, I don't know. That's all it did for me

HL1 does not have a 3d app drawer. That's all that I can tell. I have HL2 and it runs fine with my Nextheme BBV1.0 ROM. No lag but sometimes I do have to restart the launcher because the text in the app drawer goes out of alignment but no biggie.

So what is the difference between Helix 1.0 and 2.o?

I installed 2.0 and found it extremely laggy. I read here that this is due to the animated drawer and that 1.0 is the same thing w/o the drawer. I'm now running 1.0 and there is no lag. Looks like I'm keeping it.

Do you have a custom ROM and are you OC'd? I think HL2 works better on Custom ROMS but HL1 is definitely stable. I love both versions.

HL2 was designed to run on the N1, hence the 3D app drawer (which is based on the N1's framework) and instability on any phone that's not the N1.

Installing it as a system app is generally helpful in reducing lag/etc, by the way.

If you've got root access, simply put the HelixLauncher.apk (or however you name it) in your /android-sdk/tools folder, connect your phone to your PC and shift-click to open command window. Then execute:

adb remount
adb push HelixLauncher.apk /system/app

If you'd rather do it on the phone, use a terminal emulator. Navigate to the folder you've put the .apk, then type:

su
install HelixLauncher.apk /system/app

I haven't tried HL2, but I had to uninstall HL because it was crashing at least twice a day, my phone is stock. I wish one of them was stable because I really love the dock at the bottom.

I ran both 1 and 2 for a few weeks. I didn't find either of them all that "unstable". I did notice however that 1 runs a lot smoother than 2. With 2, my app drawer would take some time to populate the app drawer several times a day. And, I'm not entirely sure about this, but it seemed to lag my phone in general; my browser was a little slower and always refreshed whenever I reopened the browser, and Maps was a bit slower... taking quite a bit of time to track me with the GPS. Maybe it was a fluke, maybe not, but I switched backed to HL1 yesterday and haven't experienced any of those hiccups.

I like HL2, but I DO NOT recommend it unless you are overclocked. Stock speed Droid cannot handle the 3D app drawer.

I'm running a stock Droid with HL2 and I never see the app drawer populate issue and my droid is nice and snappy and smooth as silk. I got about 50 apps installed and a profile setting app that runs as a service all the time. I've also not seen any FC's with it. I use the phone a bunch and I don't have any issues. Go figure!!

Thats impressive! I've ONLY been able to run it smoothly with bugless beast v 1.0.
