Root Hello All Precdent Guy Here

Hey everyone, I'm glad to be here and wish I had good news but I need help with my precedent bad. I'm hoping to make this one of very many posts here and become a valued member of this forum as I do hope to learn alot and share with others as time goes on. Thanks in advance for the welcome !

I hate start off here on a sad note but I'm in need of help asap. I just opened my phone and I think I soft bricked it as I can't get the the "unlock" screen". I rooted it from a youtube vid and thought I could pull off this.
Idiots Guide: Installing [ROM][STABLE]AreaRom v2.3

I made the mistake of skipping an important steps I did not Place the AreaRom2.3.zip on my phones SD card as I understand it. I was thrown off track because the Odin didn't recognize my phone when I started the process. I asked for help and realized my mistake in the process but by then it was to late and noone was familiar with my phone. The screen I'm seeing now is saying,SAMSUNG then www. samsungmoble .com in black and white or I can go back to v5.0.2.7 Recovery screen. When I try to reset to factory settings nothing happens or reboot and It's hard to shut the phone off it just returns to the black and white lettered screen every time but I've got it shut off now.

Please give some advice on fixing this issue I don't want to turn it back on till I've got some feedback. I'm hoping there is a few precedent wizard that will take petty on me and my ignorance as this is all very new to me and hard to grasp the technical terms all at once. I was just hoping to have more access to vids but now I'd just like my phone the way it was so please help get me in the right direction, thanks.

I guess my question is how do I get the ROM put on my SD now that I'm having these problems I'm not sure the phone is being recognized by the pc via USB and this is all new to me, even that simple process throws me off. Any and all advice is needed and appreciated.
