Hello fellow Android lovers

Salvi

Newbie
I'm new here, well, I registered a while ago and forgot about it, so when I tried to register now, I found my email address was already used, lol.

Anyhow, I love my Galaxy S which I have with Telus (for another year and a half argh), but I have a Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100M) that is locked to Virgin and of course my goal is to transfer my Telus card into the S2 and use it there, since I cannot wait more then a year to use the S2, that is ridiculous.

I was a Blackberry user years ago, but changed to Android and never looked back, and have never considered an iPhone, something about it bothers me, don't know what really, but it does. Not to mention that the Galaxy S2 is so much better looking and has higher functions then even the iPhone 4S.

So, besides the introduction, if someone would be so kind to point me to a thread where I can find a way to unlock my Virgin locked S2 to accept my Telus SIM from my Galaxy S, that would be greatly appreciated.

I do have a lot of PC knowledge, but am new to all this phone rooting stuff, so I will need step by step guidance.

Not to mention that my Galaxy S (original) will never connect to KIES, no matter what, it just sits there saying connecting, but as soon as I got my S2, it connected to KIES right away, even with a non-functioning Virgin card inside it, lol.

So that excites me too, I know my S2 will work with KIES, properly, so unlock is all I need, although a root will do as well if need be.

Thank you and hello to all! Some of you may know me as Salvinorum, or Salvi, or Trypt, those are my aliases on many forums, political and scientific mostly (I'm an astrophysicist but study but not by trade, and a knowledge seeker by passion)

Welcome aboard. I hope you'll find the info on here to be informative and insightful.

Enjoy! :)

I went to canadianunlocking site and paid $25 to get the code, I'm waiting for it, we'll see how it goes. My question is, if it does work, and once the phone is unlocked, if I do a factory reset or anything like that, does it become locked again? And the other question, if the unlock code works, can I root it after?

I want to start from scratch once it's unlocked and the best way is a factory reset but I'll be afraid to do that once it's reset, unless the code can work more then once in which case I can just use it again after the factory reset (or maybe do a reset before the code?), but for future considerations as well.
