My name is Toby, and I have been earning a living by troubleshooting and repairing computers since 1990. Yet I've never had much opportunity to use command line enough to become proficient. (My first decade as a tech, I worked almost exclusively with Mac OS 6 - 9.)
I can't just read a book and immediately know how to do everything in it. I learn best when I have a combination of text, hands-on, and a mentor or co-learner with whom I can mind-meld when needed. So I tend to learn new technologies slower than a lot of others out there. That doesn't stop my from trying though. So what I'm hoping to find here are the steps and the mentors that can guide me through my hands-on attempts.
I have a tower and laptop running win 8.1, another laptop with win 7, another tower on which I am trying to learn linux server install+config, a 3-yr old Sony Experia SGT11 running ice cream sandwich 4.0.3 (r5a), an iDeaUSA (Chinamart) CT920 running jellybean 4.1.3, and a HTC One SV (Cricket) running jellybean 4.2.2. Like any tech worthy of the title, I also own a small warehouse of older hardware that I can't seem to bring myself to get rid of. ^_^
I look forward to learning enough from my new mentors (and benevolent overlords) to one day be able to return in kind to the next generation of noobs.
* Correction: Until a minute ago I did not realize that the Tablet S and Experia S were two totally differ models. (Hey! I've already learned something new here!) Anyway, what I have is the Tablet S, not the Experia.
