Help Hello Hello!

I have a quick question to anyone that can help me.. I understand what tethering is now, but I need help.

I own a Optimus V phone from Virgin Mobile, and want to make it a hotspot wifi so I can give my nexus 7 tablet internet, how would I go about doing this? and would I need to root my phone to do so?

The apps I've been looking at like "quick settings" no longer have that hotspot feature..

Could anyone help me please? thanks in advance!

FoxFi on the phone will make it a hot spot, BUT, this is outside the scope fo Virgins TOS. They want you to buy their wirless 3g device and pay for extra data usage.
If you do this I would use it very sparringly.

I understand haha..

I tried it out and all last night but here's the thing, foxfi just bases its connection off WiFi? I thought it gets it connection from 3G then uses that 3G to turn into a WiFi hotspot?

If I confused you here's an example.. I turned the Hotspot on, on my phone. Then used my tablet to connect to my phone. It worked. However unplugged my house router and now it doesn't work. So this foxfi uses WiFi to turn into a WiFi spot, when I thought it uses 3G to turn into a WiFi hotspot..

Sorry if I confused you, and thanks for the help

That is not the way mine works. I turn off WIFI. Then I make sure 3G is on.
Open FoxFi
Tap Activate WIFI hotspot
Then Mine goes throught the connection process
The it shows in the network name Android 3 ( I think that is the default.
I then go to my ASUS TF and in WIFI connect to Android 3.
Remember when you turn on WIFI it turns off 3G may it the sequence you are using.
Follow what I did and see if that solves the issue.

Let me know if still doesn't work all follow the sequence you used and see if mine does the same.
Also what version and build are you on that might make a difference.

@helpifican mine does the same thing yours does.. it's just I thought The wifi was using 3G for connection... but clearly is not and it's only using my house router if I'm correct?

So I'm in my car with my tablet And my cell phone And it just so happens I want to turn on foxfi on my cell, and use my tablet ... well it wont work?

Also the version and build are as followed:

Build: ZV5.41C0E845
Version: VM670ZV5

thanks in advance

Yes the same as mine as far as version & build goes.
On your TAB are you selecting the Android 3 connection? If so and shows connected you are than off the house and on the phone the TAB can only use one connection at a time.
If you have WIFI turned on the 3G drops on this build, its a little extra they added for Andriod 2.2.2 so you could not easily tether.
When you are in the car and enable the FOXFI hot spot do you see the Android 3 that is the cell connection you need to connect to.
If it still does not work the only think I can think of if you have not already tried is to power the phone down and see if that solves the connection issue.
That is about all I can help you with it's pretty straight forward. Sorry it's not working for you.
