Hello, just joined today

Hi,
my name is Mac Gardner, I'm a 62 year old fossil, self taught on computer and I just bought my first Android phone, a Kyocera Rise sold through Virgin mobile and activated it yesterday. I'm trying to Tether it after being told by Virgin's customer service in India, I think, that it was not possible. I then checked on the net and found several Tether programs, and downloaded the "free" version of Easy Tether to try it out. I think my phone downloaded it correctly, but I'm getting a message from my computer that there is no driver in the computer, which is running Windows Vista. Any help would be appreciated. Since I bought this phone, and Virgin requires no contract, is this considered an "unlocked phone?" Also, as I said, I have no idea what rooting means.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks,

Macthefloorguy, aka Mac Gardner

Hi Mac. Welcome to Android Forums. I don't know about tethering your Rise. I will provide you a link to the Rise discussion area. You can find out everything about your phone there from other owners of the device. They can set you straight on tether and you will also find a link to the root area for your phone if you should be interested. Rooting a phone in simple terms is gaining access to the root directory of your phone and it's files. The phone and OS is designed to keep you away from that area and forcing you to use the phone as it was designed. Gaining access allows the end user to modify and even change the phone to make it more to a user's liking. It's not for everyone but many enjoy the ability to be master of their craft.

Here is your link to the Rise area and I hope you enjoy and gain from your Android Forums experience.
