Hello, Noob needing help with m8 Box

Hello, i purchased a fully loaded m8 box the other evening advertised as running android 4.4 but when i got i noticed it was only running 4.2 not an overly big deal but i like getting what i paid for as i rightly should.

I emailed the seller and he sent me a link for a file to update the system, i have done this and the box is stilling running 4.2 but now it has nothing on it and i cant add any add ons as i keep getting - "could not retrieve directory information" although i'm connected to the internet.

I know ive prob made a rookie mistake but is there anyway of rectifying what ive done or atleast being fit to add add ons again?

It cleared and factory reset when you done the update, but unfortunately the server it needs to connect to, so it can reload everything doesn't appear to be operating. How many times did you try? So now it's effectively useless, unless you can find other sources to load.

Something to be aware of, many of the pre-installed free streams where very likely illegal and pirated. They often are with these cheap devices. Even the server your box was trying to connect to could have been shut down by the FBI. You could probably install legal services like Amazon or Netflix or Hulu on it.

Contact the vendor you purchased it from, see what they have to say about it.

You could reset it and leave it plugged up so it can update and to stream you need xbmc app . but the box update you put on you are to do a reset and let sit connected to WiFi . this will update to what is needed sometimes they sell the device with the addons pre loaded to a SD card . if I was you send it back ask seller to update and put the addons
 
cheers for the replies and sorry for only gettin back to you know mikedt and BRAINZ2013 ,

I installed the update and let it update what ever was on it and continued on from normal from there and thats when i got the problems, i tried various youtube tutorials to try and get it back running but nothin and thats when i came on here hoping that there was some handy fix id missed to save me the hassle of sending it back and waitin for a repair.

Thankfully since i posted on here i have contacted the seller and told him the situation an hes more than happy to replace or refund my box.

Thanks again for taking the time and if i have any future questions i'll be on here to ask
