Hello World

I'm a 40 something year old engineer with what I would call intermediate software programming skills. Taught myself basic when I was 14, dabbled with other languages during college, discovered fox pro during my engineering apprenticeship, and today I use microsoft access with a little bit of visual basic. I have written a few very low level programs for use at companies that I've been employed with. I am by no means a programmer but I do understand what code is and how it can be used.

I guess you could say I know enough about programming to be dangerous. I am probably 1 of those programmers that most of you real programmers hate. Nothing I do is inside the box and I'm sure that it could be done much more efficiently, but the most important thing is that I have fun while doing it.

I joined this forum because I recently purchased a motorola xoom. I've always been skeptical about google however android has really won me over. One of the things that I like best about the motorola xoom is the honeycomb platform. I am very impressed with the user interface and how easily you can be customized. I am not so impressed with the voice to text functionality lol!

Anyway to make a long story short, it's my personal feeling that if tablets are going to be the wave of the future, the winning user interface will be very ergonomic. The tablet must be comfortable to hold and at the same time present the user with functions that are within a thumbs reach. Given this, menu locations and content lists should appear along the left and right side of the screen not along the bottom where they are awkward to reach. When holding the xoom naturally, the left and right index fingers are strategically positioned in locations where scrolling sensors should appear. The right sensor should scroll vertically and the left sensor should scroll horizontally. When holding the xoom naturally, the middle fingers rest along the back side of the device. Xoom in and out sensors could be located on the back side of the device so that your middle fingers can be used to pinch and pull the content in and out. Also the software should present menus in different locations depending on how the device is being used. For example, holding the device with 2 hands verses holding the device with 1 hand verses laying the device flat on a table or proping it up on a stand.

Is there a forum for people that work on implementation of ideas like these? I have a ton of ideas and have an active interest in expressing them even if others might think they are nonsense.
