Brand new Android user here - got an HTC Wildfire to get myself into the scene.

I'm doing a University project around geotagging on smartphones, so always looking to talk to people who are in the know

You've come to the right place for info on all things Android... if you want some specialist info on geotagging, you might like to speak to our devs (can't link the development sub-forum, as I'm on my phone at the moment). It's also worth checking the Wildfire sub-forum.
