I'm new to the forum. My experience with Android is limited (have it on my HP Touchpad), but I am looking to change my phone in the very near future. I have an iPhone 4 and after continually seeing Apple sue the world and limit what I can do on the device I own I am done with them.

I really like what I see with Windows Phone 8 and would love to wait, but I would prefer getting rid of my iPhone 4 prior to the iPhone 5 (or whatever it will be called) comes out. That brings me to Android. I've been looking at the Galaxy Nexus, but I see now it has been banned for a short period of time. I am currently on AT&T, but I am considering giving Straight Talk a try.

I do have some questions for you all and hopefully you can help me out.

Is the Galaxy Nexus still a good Android device to have? I would love to get my hands on an unlocked Galaxy S III, but the cost is outrageous. If I stayed with AT&T I could easily upgrade pretty cheap, but I would have to renew my contract. I'm just sick of paying an $80+ phone bill, but if the Galaxy S III is a much better phone I guess I could deal with it...

Does anyone foresee a new Nexus being released in the near future?

Does anyone have any experience with Straight Talk? How is it?

Can rooted Android phones tether undetected like you can with the iPhone? Obviously if you go crazy with the data I'm sure they will figure it out, but at times I connect my laptop for simple things like checking e-mail, browsing simple websites, etc.

Well that is all I can think of right now, but I'm sure I will have more.

Thank you,
Jared

Hey Jared, welcome to AF! I have the Galaxy Nexus and LOVE it! And Jelly Bean has just made it that much better. I honestly think it puts it ahead of the GS3 until the GS3 itself gets Jelly Bean, and there's something to be said with stock Android :)

Google has been releasing a new Nexus every year. There was rumors earlier in the year that they are changing their format, and going to put out more than one Nexus now, each from a different carrier. But I assume that will not happen until closer to the end of the year.

As far as tethering, I can tether on Verizon for short stints such as you are talking about without issue, I can't speak to AT&T but I assume its about the same.

Anyways, make sure you check out the Galaxy Nexus forum here:

Thank you for your answers to my questions. I may just hold onto my iPhone until a new Galaxy Nexus is released even though I don't want to. It seems like the current Galaxy Nexus is slightly behind the curve on a few things and it would be great if they came out with one that was more like the S III. So I could either just upgrade to the S III and stick with AT&T and a high phone bill or wait and get a new Nexus when released and get a no contract plan and hope it works out...hmmm decisions, decisions.

Thanks again!
