Help Help! .15 update bricked phone?

Help! I have had the HTC Incredible (Verizon) since the first day it came out. Based on comments here, I have avoided upgrading to the .15 software. But, quite on mistake, I hit the Install Now button when it popped up unexpectedly. It counted down and seemed to install without issue. And sure enough at 2 AM it started with "Droid Droid". But, it got stuck on the red eye at some point. So after an hour, I pulled the battery and it rebooted normally. Appeared to work fine all day today.
BUT THEN PROBLEMS! The phone (which has worked perfectly for 3 years) just started going nuts. Locking up, programs won't launch, won't even reboot sometimes. Have to pull the battery constantly. Tried clearing cache and no help.
Thoughts? Ideas? Help? Verizon is getting a call from one PO'd customer tomorrow but I'd like some help first. Thanks.:confused:

If clearing the cache hasn't helped, you probably need to do a factory reset. Just to be clear though, are you booting into recovery and clearing the cache from there?
 
Yes, that is how I am clearing the cache. And exactly the same problem tonight. Fine all day and around 8PM or so a ton of weird problems. Not happy at all with this update. GRRRRR!
 
So...Verizon and HTC are telling my my only option is to root the phone? Point me to how to root my Incredible? Help...!
