HELP Android charges but does not connect to PC

I have a Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8. Yesterday it started to not detect my computer when I plug it in. It charges but it doesn't seem to know that it has been connected to my computer as this usually prompts my tablet to ask me to connect as usb.

- I have already checked the settings and it's connected as a USB storage (the tablet has a micro sd card that still works) and I've already selected USB debugging
- I'm running on 4.2.2
- I've already done a factory reset
- I've tried 3 different cables on it
- I've tried 2 laptops (one is Win 7 the other is Win 8.1) and 1 PC (Win XP)
- This feature was still working two days ago

Any suggestions?:'(

I checked Lenovo's website yesterday and they don't have drivers for their tablets. And no, they don't have a pc suite. I was able to use my tablet previously as a USB storage without using a pc suite.

At the same time if the usb driver was the problem wouldn't be my device be detected by my pc but not recognized? Mine doesn't have that effect. My tablet doesn't even know that it's been connected to a pc, it just charges.

I know "drivers" is the first thing that springs to mind but it's unlikely to be driver misbehaviour if it suddenly stopped working on three different PCs with 3 different versions of Windows.

Cables are the next obvious thing - but have already been checked. I'm afraid it's sounding to me like a hardware fault on the tablet, probably the USB connector.

I really hope not T_T that might cost me too much ... but yeah that's one of my conclusions too

Yup, but we can't discount it until proven otherwise.

Although sometimes weirdly, draining the device battery then charging it to full without turning it on, then turning it on helps. Happened to me.

Did the same thing happen too? Like when you plug the device in the tablet won't detect in any way (except by charging) that you've connected it to a PC?

Still I'll try this tonight.

Could be MTP was unselected and needs to be turned back on (in vanilla Android: Settings .. Storage .. Menu .. USB computer connection).

Most likely, though it's a dodgy USB cable - try a different one.

If not, then as chanchan says, it will be drivers.

- disconnect the tablet from the computer
- uninstall ALL tablet related sofware and drivers from the computer
- restart the computer
- restart the tablet

If your tablet came with PC software, install this - do NOT connect the phone until prompted.

If your tablet did not come with PC software, connect it to the computer

In both cases, do NOT disconnect the tablet until ALL drivers have successfully installed.

A) I've already done that. I can only access it as a USB storage if I know how to do it in the first place.

B) As I said in my post, I've already used 3 different cables. They work with other devices.

C) When I used it I never installed any driver. It just installed on its own.

I'll try this part. Did the exact same problem happen to you? (wherein your tablet is charging but it doesn't act like it has just been plugged in a computer)

Actually that's what I thought too. I'm just hoping that that's not the problem -_- it's pretty costly ...

Not me exactly. My brother's phone. Won't get detected by the computer at home at the time we thought we'd bring it to service on the weekend. The next day got drained after work, sonhe left it with me to charge. I filled it up before turning it on and it got detected.

Unfortunately it didn't work :( maybe it's because my main problem is that my tablet itself doesn't detect that it's been attached to a computer :(

This is along shot, but since nothing else is working for you I thought I'd suggest it. In the past when I had something like your problem I'd leave the tablet on and then restart the computer or just turn it all the way off and then back on with the tablet plugged in and ON! It worked lots of times although I don't know exactly why, lol.

Install USBDeview and delete all of the listings for your tablet. It'll force the device to re-register with your computer (if it detects it that is)

To be clear:

1. Disconnect tablet from PC
2. Install USBDeview
3. Run USBDeview and delete tablet listings. There'll be one for each USB port it was ever plugged into, so there may be multiple listings
4. Plug tablet back in
