Thanks for reading guyz/gals...

My Samsung Galaxy S has the following problems...

When I turn it on... it takes forever to go from the big "S" to the main screen... When it finally does, it starts reading the SD card... it reaches around 96% and then the screen goes black... it sits like that again till the battery dies... (the three buttons at the bottom of the phone, i.e. the back button, the home button etc... do have the lights on)

I tried this once... I thought it was stupid... but kept pressing the buttons and then the phone started vibrating while I clicked on it... and then eventually the phone would start.. now every time the battery dies.. I curse myself for not charging it as I have to go through this process every single time..

Can someone please help me with this.. I am willing to lose all the data on the phone... just want it to work... never rooted a phone.. so a step by step would help me...

I don't know if there is firmware piece that sits on the sd card... my sd card was stolen by a coworker .. I can't prove this... so I bought another micro sd card thinking the phone just needed to read it.. but if there's a file it's looking for on the card.. it ain't there for this reason... maybe this is the cause of it...

Have you tried booting the phone without the SD card? If not, try that and let us know what happens. I'm confused about the battery statement. If the battery is now dying immediately then borrow someones battery to rule out a bad battery. I've been able to go to my carriers store and get batteries for free as they have tons sitting in drawers from trade-ins. That may be an option for you if you don't know anyone that will let you test with their battery.

I've tried that before... taking out the SD card and let it boot, it does the same thing... it starts reading the SD card even when it's not there...

so this is what happens...

- turn phone on..
- wait for the S to appear
- provider name comes up - Rogers Network
- phone comes on
(this all happens based on a 10 minute wait)

Once it's on, it starts reading the SD Card (even if it's not in the phone). It reads about 96% and then the phone turns into a black screen, with the 3 buttons at the bottom highlighted... I keep pressing the home button for at least 10-15 minutes, the phone finally comes on... (if I don't press the button, the phone remains a black screen until the battery dies).

The statement about the battery that I had made was just to say how frustrated I am... if I forget to charge the battery...as the battery dies, which in turn means I have to go through the process of pressing the home button all over again until I get it to come on... after charging it ofcourse...

What I am looking for is a method to get rid of the OS altogether and install something else on it... the phone does come on...after a lot of difficulty.. and once it's on.. it works perfectly fine...

Please help...
