I have a Nexus5 and a Nexus5x both on Android 8.1. When I USB the 5 to my PC I am presented with all the sub-directories and am able to drag and drop files into them but the 5x shows no subs. Why not and how to I achieve it? USB file transfer and debugging are enabled on both.
Thanks

Glad you solved the problem.

Did you install NitroShare on all devices?
It must be set up to receive and active on all devices.
Nope! But I did with 'Send Anywhere' and realised maybe I should have done. I'm sticking with SA because the whole experience worked unlike NS's dud Help button.
I should still like to know why my Nexus 5 works painlessy with plain USB and the 5x won't.

check to see if your drivers for the phone is up to date.

Lol. Now, both my phones appear on Win10 as Nexus5x's and I can access all folders on both with USB. I can offer no explanation for this but I stopped long ago worrying about the oddities of solid state mechanics!
plus your devices are really old. not surprised you are having issues like these.

Lol, the old Apple built in decrepitude scam. No reason for not giving a more useful opinion I'd suggest. Fact is I now have USB connectivity strangely restored for these ancient items but would prefer to know how to do it deliberately. My suspicion is that, although both phones have the same Android version, for some reason the nexus5x 'forgets' it has USB file transfer set and has to be reminded.
My phones do everything I ask of them which is virtually nothing as I hate the blasted things and the finger waving and prodding that goes with them. However I now have Flightradar24 unlimited installed so now I can amuse myself checking out the odd con trail passing by.
