I've searched for days for a solution to this and I haven't been able to find one. Bluetooth on my Nexus 5 (6.0) refuses to turn on, when I hit the switch it looks like it's going on and then after a few seconds shuts back off. Everything else works properly including WiFi. I've deleted almost all the apps I can, cleared app cache, rebooted in safe mode and nothing has worked. I'm saving doing a factory reset for a last resort. Anyone have any ideas?

You've tried everything but a factory reset. But if a factory reset doesn't clear the problem, then it's very likely a fault with the phone, and requires manufacturer service. Depending on cost, a Nexus 5 might still be worth repairing, unless you want to do without Bluetooth.

If you don't think it is worth to spend cash to repair the bluetooth I have a suggestion for sharing files to other phone. You can use the app "Share it" it uses wifi hotspot(Doesn't require having an actual internet connection or mobile data just a hotspot) instead of bluetooth and is infinitely faster on transferring files than bluetooth. I highly recommend and prefer it instead of bluetooth.

Just a little update, I did a factory reset about 2 weeks ago and it seemed to have fixed the problem, however just yesterday it came back. I'm not sure why, I didn't install/uninstall any apps or change any settings. Perhaps there was a background android update I wasn't aware of that happened. I'm not sure why this is happening. Also I've heard that resetting the network settings sometimes fixes the issue but unfortunately for me everytime I try to reset it the settings app crashes. Very frustrating!
