Help Boosting Signal? for tether?

there is most likely a thread on this, i read it and need a specific answer

i have a droid 2 global with the unlimited data plan (for wifi hotspot) i go to school ontop of a mountain and the dorm i live in is old and made of concrete.. this blocks signal dramatically. i can get good service standing in weird positions and if i use the car mount onto my window but its very ineffective.

the internet is horrible here so i bought the droid so i could tether to my macbook

QUESTION: what is a cheap and easy solution that will boost my data signal??? Not just for calls??

Will any of these work? how about putting my phone into a big aluminum dish?

1. Universal Repeater Antenna - Fommy.com

2. Verizon Motorola Droid Antenna Signal Booster

3.Cell Ranger PORT 12V Cell Phone Booster For Motorola, Motorola Droid X MB810 - Miscellaneous - Fommy.com

Sincerely, CohenCapture

A booster will boost calls and can help with data. However when it boosts for data it will only boost one channel. Sometimes phones and aircards can use multiple channels for pulling data in order to obtain faster speeds. You can get a portable wilson booster which are around $3-400. Boosters only work where there is signal and generally boost two bars above what you have. If you have no signal it will not work.

The last item listed is the only one that mentions duel band which 1x/3g, but you plug it into your computer which will not help your phone reception unless your computer is a wifi hotspot. At least you would be able to do your work on the computer in your dorm/appt.

I had to install the Wilson SignalBoost DT Repeater Kit with a directional antenna over the house to get service in my home. Way to expensive for your needs, (you can get them for about 1/2 the price at the web site you linked to.)

So go for nr 3 imo.

Droid 2 really have a problem with signal, my brother who have also same model experiencing such problem. He got jealous to us specially t0 Verizon of my older sister who have a full bars. Its just funny that when we go on long drives he keeps on picking his Droid 2..like what you did, he did not only use the cell phone mount in the car to the window, he almost drag it outside the window in looking for the signal.

sounds like a bad phone to me. I rarely drop below 3 bars.
