Help buying first android phone

Hey people. I need advice on my first Android device. I am inclined to buy a ZTE Blade variant (portugal-only, called Sapo a5). It has the same specs you can check on gsmarena, except for the camera (5mpx vs 3.2 on the original Blade). It comes with v2.2, but there is 2.3 available for it (CyanogenMod at least, though I believe there are others). It's only 70

If my conversions are correct, your budget is about $135USD at the time of this reply(please correct if necessary). The ZTE Blade is reasonable as a first Android. It's best to learn on something less expensive if you're learning a new OS and also because if you decided to root the phone it's better to brick a $75 phone than a $500 one and be stuck in a contract with a carrier.

Plain and simple, since you're new to Android go with what you like. Get to know the ins and outs of the OS then work your way up to the more expensive phones as your knowledge increases. I learned that from my golf coach years ago when I wanted to buy a very expensive set of clubs when i first started learning to play. The advice was priceless when i snapped that iron over my knee after duffing a shot.

Good luck on your purchase and welcome to the Android community. The Android platform is amazing! When you're rooted you can do soooo much more with your phone. Again welcome >(:|

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm gonna buy the a5, I've been checking around on the internet and it indeed you can do so much with your rooted phone :)

NP. Good luck and keep visiting the Android forums because you can learn so much. Check out XDA-developers also. Peace.
