I am thinking about buying a phone for my son but it is a att go Phone and i was wondering if you could use it without a sim card, as he only would use wifi.

Welcome to Android Forums!

GLC is right: unless your son will use it for Skype or other telecommunications apps, then it's not going to work. Calling phone numbers is entirely dependent on cell connectivity... which is a function of the SIM card.

It's great to have you here :)

he will use it like that but will i be able to use it without activating it since its a goPhone

If your question is "Will a gophone work, as a phone, without activation or a SIM?" then the short answer is no. I hope I got it that time :)

I would say yes. I have several phone that I keep as WiFi only devices, no sim and not activated on a network. I can't think of a reason a GOPHONE would be any different. I enable Airplane mode then turn on WiFi and skip over the network activation.

All phones are capable of making emergency services calls (911) in the U.S. even if no sim and not activated.

YES....
It will work as a WiFi device. It will just be a tiny tablet lol

Sorry, some folks can't just answer a question lol

Activation is only needed if you would plan to use data and or make calls through att (which you are not).
THANK U

Yes you can use the phone over wifi only without activating it. The phones network data communication won't work, but the phones internal modem function will be fine.
Simple and straight you can do it.
