Which ROM did you install? As far as I was aware, most of the 2.2 ROMS weren't locked to any network.

Swedish Spring (totally confused as I don't really understand what a ROm isd - same as an operating system?
Yeah, ROM = OS.
I'm 99% sure Swedish Spring is network unlocked as that's what I installed on my GF's. Can you get into the phone etc with the other networks SIM in the phone?

I can get in with both my old orange and my new three.co.,uk sim in the phone, but with te latter it's still saying my orange credit has run out and doesn't appear to be recognised.

I see on threes website it says their sims only worrk with 3G phones. Is the San Fransisco 3G?
Yeah, it's 3G. Are your APN's setup correctly?
Settings -> Wireless And Networks -> Mobile Networks
APN settings should be there or there abouts (sorry, my GF owns the San Francisco and she's at work and I can't remember exactly where the APN info is). There should be an option in the list that says something along the lines of 3, or Hutchison 3G or similar?

I've found where the APN details go but its all grayed out and wont let me input.
If you hit the menu button on that screen, does it list more options?

Delete apn, save or discard.
Just spent hald an hour on the three line to a guy in india (after 20 press this and thats) and he says my sim details haven't been passed to them from carphone warehouse. I didn't even know carphonewarehouse was involved in this. Can't get through to car phone warehouse.

They're not, 3 are talking rubbish (unless you got the sim from carphone warehouse).
You may need to register the SIM with them for it to work properly though.
