Help Help: Contact Search Doesn't Find

Trupod

Newbie
I am at a loss to understand what's happening:

Much of the time I can't make calls because the search contacts function can't find the names I type into the search box.

But these contacts (about 4,500 in all) ARE in my Gmail contacts list, AND if I dial manually (or if they call me) the call log DOES correctly identify the contact.

I did not have this problem 'til a couple weeks ago, and now it is ubiquitous.
What might be happening?

Thanks for your attention.

Once inside Google search, tap menu then Search settings, then clear your search history. The cache for that may simply be tangled and that will likely fix it.

By the way, it's not for everyone, but I like Google Gesture Search for my contacts. I don't have 4500 of them, though. :)

Another cause of this can be that the contacts provider is taking too long to respond so its results are not shown in Google search. Why would this happen now? Perhaps there's a new app installed that is hogging CPU? Try powering off/on.

If you only use search for contacts, then try removing all the other search providers from "searchable items" in the search settings.
