Help Help! External speaker on Desire HD not working

Hi there: everything working fine on my Desire HD until yesterday, when the external speaker stopped working. Everything fine via headphones though.

I have the Normal Sound profile set. All volume settings are at maximum, including the obvious volume control at the side of the screen. No weird installations at all, though I have installed the recent Android upgrade (to 2.3.36 I think?).

Phone is only two months old and was, as I say, fine until yesterday, so I don't suspect hardware failure.

Any settings I might have carelessly reset to Silent? Any issues I might not know about that I should look at?

All suggestions welcome!

Interesting, the opposite has happened to me and some others. (Head phones = nothing, internal speaker = ok).

Try the usual tricks.

1 - Restart.
2 - Turn off DHD, remove battery, wait a few minutes, turn back on.

3 - You may be able to start the DHD in safe mode, but I'm not experienced with that. You can search for guides though.

4 - If nothing helps and you have searched for similar threads last thing is to try a factory reset.

Thanks, DJDill... I got that far but no obvious results.

Is there any possible link between this problem and Bluetooth software? I tried last night to pair my DHD with my Vista laptop, but got some weird failure message on the laptop from the BT connection software, and no pairing. (The laptop BT works with everything else of mine - headsets, other phones, etc).

I may try shutting down all the BT on the DHD and then restarting/battery out etc.

Surely we should have got past this sort of dodgy software conflict stuff (if that's what it is) by now???

Thanks again for any ideas. :)

I had the same problem with no external speaker and It was after I would connect my phone to my Bluetooth headset. For me the only way to get the speaker working again was to hold the power button and select restart and it would work again. Oddly enough, after I paired my phone with my PC I no longer had the problem after connecting to my headset.

Exact same thing has happened to mine yesterday - I just assumed it was a hardware fault and I'm having a new handset sent out by Vodafone tomorrow.

I'd also just used the HTC sync, after updating the HTC sync program on my PC. Again, I can hear callers talking (if I don't use the speaker-phone), and I can hear everything if I put a pair of earphones in, but otherwise there's no sound at all - ringtone, notifications, alarm, media - all silent.

I once had a similar problem,
my problem was with "Super BT Mono" once that was turned on it worked fine but it you don't turn it off
it stuffs up you normal speakers
