Help Help fixing long file names

I need to transfer about 50 gigs of music from one sd card to the other. I connected phone to computer and started the transfer, only for it to be interrupted about 12 gigs in, because some of the file names were too long. Whats the limit to be able to move these files? And is there some kind of app that can edit spcifically these files? My music folder has 50 gigs of mostly loose mp3 files, and it will really suck to have to edit them manually one by one

The default file system for microSD cards is either FAT32 or exFAT so file name length has limitations, and includes excluding several special characters:

Maybe try using this bulk file renaming utility:

Its UI is kind of crowded and unadorned but if you're trying to find longer named files you can specify which directories and then use 'Filters' to search only for files in a certain place that have file names longer than whatever number of characters you've specified.

It could be a limitation of how the venerable Win XP implements MTP. If it is, don't expect Microsoft to fix and update it.
