Help Help Formatting a 32gb micro-sd card for the Photon 4G

Although there are a few topics about how to formatting/partitioning your micro SD card and or how to copy over the contents of your existing SD Card onto the newer one, I have yet to see one that explains or gives a how to for copying your original supplied 8GB SD Card that came with your Photon onto a much bigger card (Like 32 GB).

Is it just a matter of copying the stuff over in Windows.
Are there any hidden directories?
Is Webdock on the sdcard or in the internal memory.
Should the new 32GB card be partitioned or left as is?

So many questions so little time lol

Post away.

I always transfer stuff onto it by copying and pasting from windows with my phone connected as a mass storage device. I didn't actually even reformat it from when it was in my EVO.

Oh and webdock is on the phone.

I'm a newbie, But I got a PNY 32GB micro SD card for my Photon 4G, I literally just put it in and it worked fine.

I just drag and drop my media from my MacBook Pro.

yeah, usually I just copy stuff from the old card and put in in the new one and call it a day, but being that Moto is so so much different from my previous HTC EVO, I wasn't sure if there were hidden areas, Webtop or more than one partition.

Either way I did just copy everything over and so far no issues.

Thanks for the confirmations.

TS, Ideally at some point, this is how I plan on re-organizing all the storage stuff. Not sure if it'll help you out for your needs, but it just seems the most logical for me:

3GB apps storage:
- Apps that can't be moved to SD (obviously).
- Apps that need to stay on the phone that I use widgets for

8.92 GB internal storage
- Apps that can be moved to SD (No need to really move them again to the 32GB and probably better served being on the internal storage).
- Ringtones, Notification Sounds
- Configruation App backups (for apps that allow for configuration backup).

external storage (e.g. 32GB card)
- Music (e.g. mp3's)
- Videos (e.g. hard files)
- Secondary Backups for apps (e.g. apk files and secondary backup for app configuration)
- Camera photos/videos

Just seems like, for the most part, this would be the most logical approach for where the files are being stored on the internal/external storage areas.

Why put these here instead of external storage? Won't that add a step when you get a new phone?

It will, sort of. For my past 4 phones, when it comes to ringtones/notifications, I've always just re-formatted the microSD for the new phone anyway (especially when there may be cache directly linked to each phone that is on and doesn't need to be linked to the new one).

Reason it's more ideal for the sounds to be on the internal storage, when you connect the phone to a PC as a USB drive, anything that is directly linked to the phone's setup cannot be identified, until you disconnect the phone as a USB drive.

So, whenever sound notifications come in (while my phone is connected to a PC as a USB drive, I have no clue what they are until I actually look at my phone. For this reason, I'm actually also considering putting my wallpapers on the internal storage, instead of the external SD.
